National Nursing Home Week 2023

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) chose “Cultivating Kindness” as the theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week® (NSNCW). The annual, national observance celebrates the essential role that skilled nursing care centers play in providing safe and effective 24-hour nursing care to millions of individuals each year.

Every day in nursing homes there are acts of kindness that go above and beyond the call of duty. The theme we have chosen captures these acts of kindness that can be transformative for staff and the residents they care for. Kindness is contagious so let’s continue cultivating and spreading it to improve lives.

This year at J Michael Morrow, we decided to merge our daily themes with kindness! We are so happy to share our fun with everyone in the community! We kicked off Nursing Home Week with our annual Balloon Release led by Mrs. Suzanne Stelly, who gave our proclamation.

We continued right in to Monday's Theme, "Hunting for Kindness." Spoiler alert! It's not that difficult to find here at J Michael Morrow Nursing Home. Our residents and staff dressed for the occasion and took pictures in front of our balloon arch. Lunch was a "deer" burger grilled on the pit by our maintenance men! Later in the day, we had a hunting trip planned. We outfitted our residents with Mrs. Brandy Colley's literal armory of Nerf guns! (Big thanks to her boys for letting us borrow them) It was so much fun watching our resident's "hunt" our deer and rabbit in the forest. Then we had a Super bingo, where staff donated our bingo prizes. They had a blast!

Tuesday  we took a walk on the wild with a petting zoo! Our theme today is "Bee Kind to Animals".  We had so much fun getting to know all the sweet animals Bar None Ranch & Petting Zoo brought out for us. Even that giant iguana! After we enjoyed snacks and played Animal Super Bingo!

We set sail on Wednesday with our theme, "Cruisin' for Kindness" Today we had a Birthday Luau with snacks and live music. Thanks to Mr. Glenn Dale Fontenot and his Band of one! We had daiquiris and took pictures in front of our balloon arch! Our staff really dressed for the part and participated in a "Hula" contest !

Thursday, Charlee's Angels brought peace, love, and kindness in the form of music and dance! We took pictures in front of our backdrop with staff! We had a groovy time! Far out!

Friday, we stepped right up to our Carnival of kindness! We had ice cream sundaes and played  many carnival games! We won prizes and had so much fun!
